Episode's summary

Last week, the National Party announced a suite of changes targeting housing affordability for senior New Zealanders. Buzz around coalition making has naturally found itself focusing on a partnership between Opportunity and a National Coalition, judging from current polling. That focus, however, is on the fact that Christopher Luxon has repeatedly ruled out working with the Opportunity party, even if polls suggest it's necessary. And enrolling closed over the weekend, giving us an idea of how many eligible voters will not be able to vote in the upcoming election. Of course, this has exacerbated discussion around Nationals implementation of that enrolment deadline, and how it has impacted potential voters. Host Alex spoke with National MP Dan Bidois about these topics.

TVNZ Strikes w/ Etū National Secretary Rachel Mackintosh: 27th October, 2026

This Thursday staff from TVNZ across Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch will go on strike for the first time in 20 years. The industrial action comes after TVNZ offered workers a 2.5% pay rise, a number that staff are saying is unacceptable with inflation at 4.1%. Etū union claims pay has fallen 18.1% in real terms for staff since 2018, this along with job cuts has made the work increasingly difficult. To discuss the strikes and worker conditions, producer Thomas talked to Etū national secretary Rachel Mackintosh.
